Brain Lara is one of eleven siblings. Early first-class career
1987 was a great year for Lara, when he scored 498 runs in the West Indies Youth Championship, breaking Carl Hooper’s record of 480 runs, which he had set the previous year. He captained Trinidad and Tobago to tournament winners, benefiting from a match-winning 116 from Lara.
Lara made his first-class debut for Trinidad and Tobago in the Red Stripe Cup against the Leeward Islands in January 1988. Later that year, he captained the West Indies team in Australia for the Bicentennial Youth World Cup,
